Are Giraffe's Necks On the Chopping Block?

Giraffe's are the supermodels  of the African savannah, pouty- lipped creatures with super-long legs and  inordinate amounts of sex appeal. Unfortunately,  being easy on the eyes isn't enough to ensure their long-term survival outside of game preserves and animal parks.  ( CS Monitor)

Ethical Investing Is It Worth It?

The popularity of "values driven" investing has surged in recent years, from a lone fund called Pax World in 1971 to at least 60 funds today -- including some that have consistently posted healthy returns, helping the field to shed its weak reputation. ( On Earth )

Fixing a Low-Carbon Diet

Although representing 4.5 percent of the world's population, the United States contributes an estimated 25 percent of its greenhouse gases. Faced with this fact and news reports of spring arriving earlier, winter arriving later, and the Arctic melting, the subject of climate change has gone from an abstract issue debated among scientists to something with apparently measurable effects in daily life. Small Filmakers the New Muckrakers

"Black Gold," now being screened at festivals and art houses, is the latest in a growing genre of documentary films shaking up the business world. They are taking critiques of corporate power that would once have been the province of newspapers and magazines to movie theaters and DVD shops, where they're finding an increasingly receptive audience. Life Lessons on the Appalachian Trail

A dozen or so companions look more ready for the trek to a primitive campsite, with tents and equipment hanging off backpack frames. But most in the group, except for the leaders, are hiking novices who know each other mostly through Internet chats. They are taking a high-tech college course exploring a low-tech subject: the Appalachian Trail. ( Washington Times )

Spacing Out in a Treehouse

Lit up at night, Dustin Feider's treehouse looked like a moon sitting 40 feet above the ground in a poplar tree. Besides the fact that it looks like he dropped an Ewok village  onto a front yard in Pewaukee, Wis., all the materials are either made from recycled products or are themselves recyclable.
